Taking care of the environment is a major priority in this Project.

An Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report has been prepared for the Project according to the EIA Regulations 2012, issued by the Ministry of Environment and all the amendments brought to the regulation including the amendment number 2016/R-66 gazette 11 August 2016.

Main impacts associated with the Project


The main impacts identified through the EIA process for the Project are recalled hereafter:

  • Impact on sensitive receptors present in Addu atoll, e.g. coral reef, marine fauna and beit fishes
  • Impact on livelihood, especially for the fishery, tourism and diving sectors, and
  • Impact on marine protected areas, especially Manta Point and the British Loyalty shipwreck
